102.6. FAQ: Why Can't I Amend My C3 Report?
My Initial C3 filing had an incorrect deposit date or had the wrong deposit selected - why can't I amend it?
For C3 reports, each report has a unique ID in the efile (the "external_ID" field in the efile). That ID is generated based on the committee, deposit, and deposit date. When a second report is filed with the same ID, WA's system automatically supersedes the pre-existing report with that ID, making filing of amendments very quick.
The drawback to that is that it makes it much more difficult to amend reports when the initial filing had an incorrect deposit date or had the wrong deposit selected. However, the External ID Override can be used to address this issue. That field can be used to manually enter a previous report's ID to make amending easier. To make it easier for filers to find, C3 efiles will now have a filename that contains the "external_ID," so as long as you retain a copy of the original filing, you should be able to find the ID in the event that it needs to be amended.
