9.9. Changing Committee Records to Organization records and vice-versa

If an Organization or Committee record is created with the wrong record type, it cannot be simply changed to the other as an Indvidual/Candidate record can be toggled back and forth.

In order to change a Committee Record to an Organization Record, or an Organization to a Committee, you must follow the steps below. In this example, we will update a record that was created as an Organzation but should be a Committee.

1) Rename the record with the incorrect type to help identify it during the rest of this process.

2) Create the new record with the correct Type (in this case, a Committee), by using the Copy Contact Info button on the original record:

3) Edit any transactions connected to the original record, and update them to link to the new correct record.

4) Save the transaction, and it will now appear on the new (correct) record.

You will also need to update any records with Connections (such as Candidate, Bank, Treasurer etc), as well as any Tags that are on the old record and move them to the new one. Make sure you keep track of which record is the old record type, and which is the new updated one!
